For
this episode, the designers were asked to create a stage
outfit for the world renowned Rockettes. Sounds simple, but there were a
lot of things to keep in mind: the uniforms have
to look good up close and from a distance, sexy, but not slutty --
always classy -- and the material must be something easy to move around
in!

ABOUT MY DESIGN
I
must have redone this design a hundred times before I was satisfied! I
originally wanted to incorporate corsets and gothic lolita style, but
all of those sketches looked too slutty, so I ended up scratching that
idea. In the end, I also ended up using colors that I wouldn't usually
use (greens) and focused on creating lines and shapes across the body.
With white netting and beading over stretchy fabric, the top is easy to
move in, but will have the practical use of holding the dancer in place.
For the bottom, I chose a filmy material to go in layers to retain a
similar effect with the skirt that I wanted to do with the gothic
lolita, but more subtle. Also, it is overlaid with bead strings to
bounce jauntily as the dancers kick.
Styling and accessories...
To add a small flash of color, the model is wearing a Robert Rose Goldtone Colorful Ring, and Steve Madden Bow Derek Platform Pumps that are sweet, but will not detract from the main attraction: the dancer and the outfit.
All accessories are from Project Runway's Lord & Taylor wall.
